A Little About Me

Linda Ottley Rich grew up by Mt. Olympus at the mouth of East Millcreek Canyon. Linda has two brothers and two sisters Sadly, she recently lost her father who was a proud WWII Veteran as a gunner in the B-17 aircraft over Europe. She graduated from Skyline High School (go Eagles!) and attended the U of U before she spread her wings and flew as a flight attendant for Frontier Airlines. She is proud to say that she has visited every state in the US and as well as many countries in both hemispheres. Later she served as a Flight Attendant Manager in Denver, Dallas, Kansas City, and Salt Lake City. She earned her private pilots license along the way and still claims the sky is her favorite place to be.

Doug asked Linda for a first date which kept getting delayed because she had travel opportunities which took her out of town. He thought she was blowing him off, but really she was just trying to see as many places as she could before quitting her job and resuming college. Linda and Doug actually met 13 years before when they attended 9th grade seminary together. The first date finally came after she had seen the world and Doug had completed his first Master's Degree in Clinical Social Work. Their mutual friends finally invited them both on a canyon outing and they hit it off. They married a few months later in the SLC temple and have been married for 37 years this month.

They started their family with three girls and finished up with a boy. They are all married and living within one hour of home presently. Linda loves being a mom and a grandmother of 13. She taught dance in her home for 14 years and had 120 students most of the time. It was a busy time but she was glad to be "working" at home with her kids. Her three girls are violinists and a favorite request is to have them play music at home both.classical and fiddle. They even had a family band for many years with Linda playing stand-up bass.

Linda worked as Program Director for the Center for Entrepreneurship at BYU for 13 years and finally realized her dream to graduate from college in 2001. She retired in 2009 and loves being home for her family and all the fun domestic things she couldn't do while working full-time. Favorite book: Jane Eyre; favorite movie: Master and Commander; favorite pasttime: Family Search indexing. Linda loves serving as a part-time service missionary at the Mission Training Center. She has had a fun summer volunteering home with her daughters and grandkids at This is the Place Heritage Park in in the Charles C. Rich home. Pioneers...westward ho!
